Performance limits

Premium

This is part of ScriptedEssentials Premium. See what's in each edition.

Use /limit to cut how much players load while the server is running, without touching the server's own settings. It's handy when the cast's computers are struggling and only the person filming needs the full view.

commands
/limit # opens the limits menu
/limit view <chunks>
/limit simulation <chunks>
/limit players <blocks>
/limit status
/limit reset

The menu has sliders for view and simulation distance and a box where you type the player distance in blocks.

Setting What it does
view How many chunks players can see. At 1 they only see the chunk they're standing in.
simulation How far out mobs move and crops grow. It can't go below 2.
players Players further apart than this many blocks can't see each other.

0 puts a setting back to the server's own value, or removes the player distance. View and simulation go up to 32 chunks, and player distance up to 2000 blocks.

Short forms: render or send for view, sim for simulation, player or entity for players, info for status and clear for reset.

Who it applies to

Ops and players with scriptedessentials.perf.bypass aren't limited, so whoever's filming still sees everything. Ops are never hidden by the player distance either.

Bobby and Distant Horizons

Bobby and Distant Horizons keep chunks from earlier visits on the player's computer and keep showing them, so a view limit can't hide anything from them. While a view limit is on, limited players who join with either mod get kicked with a message telling them to remove it. Players already online are checked when you turn the limit on.

This works even if the mod checker is turned off.

Always needs scriptedessentials.admin.
